Financial Assistance Programs

If you have Medicare and limited income and resources, you may qualify for financial assistance programs such as Low Income Subsidy and Medicare Savings Programs.

 
Low Income Subsidy

Anyone who has Medicare can get Medicare Prescription Drug coverage. Extra savings are available for people with limited income and resources. Low Income Subsidy will pay for all or most of the monthly premiums and annual deductibles and lower the prescription copayments. To qualify for Extra Help, the annual income must be limited to $16,245 for an individual ($21,855 for a married couple living together). Additionally, the total resources must be limited to $12,510 for an individual ($25,010 for a married couple living together). The resources do not include a primary residence or a vehicle. Medicare Savings Programs

Medicare Savings Programs help people with limited income and resources pay Medicare out of pocket expenses such as: premiums, deductibles, and copayments. The help they get from the Medicare Savings Programs can save them over $1,100 per year. Available Medicare Savings Programs are Qualified Medicare Beneficiary (QMB), Specified Low Income Medicare Beneficiary (SLMB) and Qualifying Individual (QI-1). To qualify for a Medicare Savings Program, the annual income must be limited to $14,868 for an individual ($19,920 for a married couple living together). Additionally, the total resources must be limited to $6,600 for an individual ($9,910 for a married couple living together). The resources do not include the primary residence or a vehicle and there is an additional $10,000 allowable for burial expenses. If you believe you or someone you know may qualify, apply with your local county Division of Family and Children Services office or contact GeorgiaCares.

 
Patient Assistance Programs

If you have Medicare and still cannot afford your medicines, you may be able to get help paying for them through patient assistance programs. Assistance is available for name brand and generic medications. To see if you qualify for low or no cost prescriptions, call Partnership for Prescription Assistance at 1-800-435-9042 or GeorgiaCares will assist you in finding appropriate programs and completing applications.
